Kota Kinabalu Trip 4th - 8th July, 2008 (Part 2)


Day 3 (6th July, 2008)
Today is the big day. We having our Mount Climbing expedition.



We woke up at 6.30am and having a short breakfast (bread and Milo). 7.30am, we have to depart and pick up the other group of tourist to Mt. KK. It takes about 2 hours to Kinabalu Park for registration before we proceed our climbing expedition.

Third quarter of the journey, we stop by at Kalangadan Restaurant to snap some photo of the Mt. Kinabalu view.


Here's the map of the journey of Mount Kinabalu to the peak. Our starting point at Timpohon Gate and end at the Low's Peak with the height of 4095.2M.


After registered at Kinabalu Park, we had hired a porter cum tour guide to help us to carry the luggages and guide us to the summit. Total weight for our 2 luggages is 17KG. It cost us about RM120 for the porter fees.


We have started our journey at Timpohon Gate at 11.35am. Our tour guide named Willi.


We started our journey at 11.35am. Everyone have a lunch pack for this journey. The lunch pack contain of 2 boiled eggs, 8 pieces of sandwich and 1 fried chicken.


The first beautiful view. A little waterfall located before 0.5km from the summit.


Reached at Kandis Shelter at 12.02pm.

Reached Ubah Shelter at 12.20pm.


Nice weather. After 1KM journey, everyone still ok.


Jess in not feeling well because she was sicked before she climb the mountain.


Reached 1.5KM at 12.35pm

Reached at Lowi Shelter at 12.55pm


Reached 3KM journey at 1.32pm. The scenery become vague, it just like in the paradise.


Reached at Mempening Shelter at 1.45pm.

Reached at Layang Layang Shelter at 2.32pm.

After a long distance of hiking, we are still ok with our stamina and strength.

The route of the journey have changed from muddy to rocky.


Reached at Villosa Shelter at 3.55pm.


Reached at Paka Shelter at 4.39pm.


I'm getting cold. This glove my help me to warm my hand.


We almost reach to the rest point, Laban Rata. It is located 6km from the start point.


Here is it. The Laban Rata just in front of me.


And here is Gunting Laganda Hut, the place where we overnight and continue our journey on tomorrow. It just 200m distance from Laban Rata.


Reached Laban Rata at 5.19pm. Total time of journey about 6 hours.


Having a buffet dinner at Laban Rata. We eat and shower at here. I'm having a great experienced of shower with cold water in cold temperature. Its was freezing until my bones getting shivering.


It was so cold out there. It just 9.5 celcius degree only.


7.10pm, the day was dark. It is different from KL, the sky is dark earlier. We need our torch light to go to Gunting Laganda Hut.


Totally retarded. It was so tired and cold. Tomorrow 2am have to continue journey again. Now is already 7.40pm.


Day 4 (7th July, 2008)

I only managed to get asleep around 9pm. And being waken up several times due to my roommates open the door many times. By 1am, we have to wake up and going down again to the Laban Rata having a light breakfast and proceed our summit journey. So, we meet our tour guide, Willi at Laban Rata. Unfortunately, there was a rain at 2am. It is too danger of climbing the mountain with slippery condition. So have no choice but to wait until stop raining.



Is only 4 of us will proceed to the summit. Jess is not feeling well of her cough. So, she decided to stay in the Gunting Laganda Hut.

There is remaining 2.5km to the summit from Laban Rata. Estimation temperature now is 3 celcius degree. That's was very cold and I dare not to take out my glove to take photos. This photo taken in 1.5km left from the summit at 5.35am.

I was failed to see the sunrise in the summit. Is about 1km left from summit, the sun is rised and the time now is 5.56am.


6.00am - Passby the South's peak (3921.5m)



6.30 am - It was so closed. I can see the summit just in front of me.


The feeling of satisfaction. I've finally did it to reach to the summit of Low's Peak (4095.2m) at 6.40am.

The sunrise is shining the whole mountain.

A Great recognition! Finally, we have reached the summit.

A check point to the summit. Now, we are going down to Laban Rata, having a breakfast and packing our luggage and back to starting point.

My legs were pain. Its not injured, but a over stress until it muscle pain. I'm the slowest to reach at the Timpohon Gate.



My group members were reach Timpohon 1 hour earlier than me. My legs was totally retarded and I force myself to finish it as soon as possible. When it has just remain 1km left, it was a heavy rain and I've totally get wet. Finally, I reached Timpohon Gate at 3.30pm. Jess and Janice were went to packing for our lunch pack. Then we wait for the Travel Agency driver to fetch us back to BG Backpackers. We back to BG at 6.15pm and dinner. All of us were so tired and start packing for our luggage. Tomorrow we will leaving Kota Kinabalu.




Day 5 (8th July, 2008)
We wake up at 9.30am and say bye bye to Borneo Global Backpackers. After check-out, our luggage still kept in there.

We went for KK City tour by walking. It just take about 20 minutes walking distance to the town.

Lastly, we bought our souvenirs at here, the Handicraft Centre.

Righteous come over to meet us and treat us drink coconut, accompany us to walk in Centrepoint Sabah and fetch us to airport. So kind of him.

Now we are in the KK Airport and reach to KL at 7.15pm. We took LCCT bus to KL Sentral and transfer to LRT Putra to Kelana Jaya. After that, we take taxi back to Cyrus' apartment. When I back to my home, its about 11.30pm.
